RULE OF THIS EBOOK: This material was written for two audiences: health professionals (physicians, biomedical scientists, nutritionists and pharmacists), within the legal limits of each profession, and patients and caregivers, as a source of understanding and of dialogue with the health care team.
All the strategies described here are integrative and adjuvant. They do not replace surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy.
Management is always carried out together with the attending oncologist, who must be informed of every nutraceutical, herbal medicine or drug introduced.
No cancer treatment or current medication should be stopped, postponed or have its dose changed without a decision by the attending physician.
The doses, formulas and protocols described in this ebook are not guidance for self-medication: they depend on individual evaluation, prescription and monitoring by a licensed professional.
CRITICAL NOTICE: For the health professional, it is a reference work; for patients and caregivers, it is material for understanding, which does not constitute a prescription, diagnosis or individual therapeutic guidance and does not replace a consultation with a licensed professional. The strategies described are integrative and adjuvant and must be carried out together with the oncologist. No cancer treatment or current medication should be stopped, replaced or adjusted without a decision by the attending physician. Prescription drugs and herbal medicines require individual evaluation, prescription by a licensed professional, and clinical and laboratory monitoring.
Sources and method
- The e-book was organized from a complete reading of the reference work, A Medicina 50 Anos Depois, Volume II: Câncer [Medicine 50 Years Later, Volume II: Cancer], by José de Felippe Junior (Editora Biomolecular, 2017, 1,277 pages). The positions, doses and formulas attributed to the author are identified in the text and accompanied by the corresponding page of the book.
- Module 22 brings together 324 scientific references, grouped by module, with title and link.
- The "Caution from this ebook" notes are safety warnings added on the basis of the package insert or an official source, which do not appear in the reference work.
- The key to evidence levels is Table 5 of the e-book (page 14):
- [MA] Meta-analysis or systematic review: meta-regression of prospective studies; IARC syntheses
- [RCT] Randomized controlled trial: controlled trial with a randomly assigned comparator group
- [CT] Non-randomized clinical trial: phase I or II, open-label study, single arm
- [OBS] Observational or epidemiological study in humans: cohort, case-control, ecological study, analysis of human tissue
- [CR] Case report or case series: includes the clinical cases published by the author
- [PC] Preclinical: in vitro and animal studies
- [AE] Author's clinical experience or opinion: positions of Felippe Jr. without a study of their own to support them
- No phase I, protocol, in vitro or animal study is classified as [RCT].
